Chris Farraday (Wahlberg) heeft zijn criminele verleden reeds lang achter zich gelaten, maar wanneer zijn zwager Andy (Caleb Landry Jones) een drugsdeal voor zijn meedogenloze baas Tim Briggs (Ribisi) verknoeit, wordt Chris gedwongen om opnieuw te doen wat hij het beste kan - smokkelwaar vervoeren - om de schuld van Andy af te lossen. Chris is een legendarische smokkelaar en hij verzamelt met de hulp van zijn best vriend Sebastian (Ben Foster) al gauw een crew rondom zich, voor een allerlaatste reis naar Panama en terug, in de hoop met een paar miljoen vervalste dollarbiljetten terug te keren. De zaken draaien echter verkeerd uit en Chris zal al z'n vaardigheden moeten aanwenden om uit de handen te blijven van de gewelddadige drugsdealers, politie en huurmoordenaars, vooraleer zijn vrouw Kate (Beckinsale) en kinderen het doelwit worden.
